Jan. 27th, 2008 - HALTON ISLAMIC ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS 2008
In accordance with Article VII of the HIA Constitution, the HIA Election Committee Meeting will be held on January 27, 2008 at The Halton Mosque - 4310 Fairview Street, Burlington, Ontario, L7L 4Y8 to elect eligible persons to the respective positions on The Board, The Standing (Muslimah, Election and Education) Committees of The HIA and to ratify positions of the elected members currently serving on The Election and The Education Committees as per Articles XI.A.2 and Article XI.B.2 of the Constitution.
Specifically the Election Committee is seeking nominations as follows: The HIA Board: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Member-at-Large, The Muslimah Commitee three (3), The Election Committee three (3) vacancies with two (2) members to ratify and The Education Committee with all five (5) members to be ratified.
BEFORE SUBMITTING THE NOMINATION FORMS PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING :
1. According to the amendment to Article V.B.IV(4) of the HIA constitution passed on October 7, 2001, MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING for the preceding one year and residing in the Region of Halton shall be eligible to vote and to be elected to The Board and The Standing Committees of The HIA. A copy of the CURRENT MEMBERSHIP LIST is on the Association’s notice board at the Halton Mosque.
2. Article VII, Section (e) regarding the NOMINATION of CANDIDATES states: A minimum of ten(10) members of the Association are required to nominate a candidate for election to the HIA Board, The Election Committee and The Education Committee. Similarly, for The Muslimah Committee, a minimum of ten (10) women members are required to nominate a candidate.
3. THE ELECTION COMMITTEE WOULD LIKE TO REMIND YOU AT THIS TIME ALSO TO RETURN YOUR COMPLETED MEMBERSHIP FORMS WITH THE APPROPRIATE PAYMENT BEFORE JANUARY 31 2008 TO QUALIFY FOR ONE FULL YEAR OF BONA FIDE MEMBERSHIP OF THE ASSOCIATION.
PLEASE NOTE:
Voting will be held from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm on Sunday January 27, 2008 at the Halton Mosque. Results will be announced after counting the ballots when the meeting will be reconvened at 3:00 pm to accept nominations from the floor for the remaining unfilled positions, if any, and to ratify positions of the elected members currently serving on The Election Committee and The Education Committee as well as to have the elected representatives take the HIA Pledge of Office.
